A class of regular biorthogonal linear-phase filterbanks: theory, structure, and application in image coding

چکیده
This paper discusses a method of regularity imposition onto biorthogonal linear-phase -band filterbanks using the lattice structure. A lifting structure is proposed for lattice matrix parameterization where regularity constraints can be imposed. The paper focuses on cases with analysis and synthesis filterbanks having up to two degrees of regularity. Necessary and sufficient conditions for regular filterbanks in terms of the filter impulse response, frequency response, scaling function, and wavelets are revisited and are derived in terms of the lattice matrices. This also leads to a constraint on the minimum filter length. Presented design examples are optimized for the purpose of image coding, i.e., the main objectives are coding gain and frequency selectivity. Simulation results from an image coding application also show that these transforms yield improvement in the perceptual quality in the reconstruction images. The approach has also been extended to the case of integer/rational lifting coefficients, which are desirable in many practical applications.

متن کاملA new class of biorthogonal wavelet systems for image transform coding
We construct general biorthogonal Coifman wavelet systems, a new class of compactly supported biorthogonal wavelet systems with vanishing moments equally distributed for a scaling function and wavelet pair. A time-domain design method is employed and closed-form expressions for the impulse responses and the frequency responses of the corresponding dual filters are derived. The resulting filter ...
متن کاملLattice structure for regular paraunitary linear-phase filterbanks and M-band orthogonal symmetric wavelets
Paraunitary linear-phase (PULP) -channel uniform filterbanks, which are also known as the generalized lapped orthogonal transforms (GenLOTs), can be designed and implemented using lattice structures. This paper discusses how to impose regularity constraints onto the lattice structure of PULP filterbanks. These conditions are expressed in term of the rotation angles of the lattice components by ...
متن کاملA family of lapped regular transforms with integer coefficients
Invertible transforms with integer coefficients are highly desirable because of their fast, efficient, VLSI-suitable implementations and their lossless coding capability. In this paper, a large class of lapped regular transforms with integer coefficients (ILT) is presented. Regularity constraints are also taken into account to provide smoother reconstructed signals. In other words, this ILT fam...
متن کاملOrthogonal and biorthogonal texture-matched wavelet filterbanks for hierarchical texture analysis
This paper deals with the application of the wavelet transform to hierarchical texture analysis. The main goal is the design of texture-matched FIR-filterbanks as the dyadic (2-channel) orthogonal and the M-channel biorthogonal wavelet filterbanks. The new approach represents a generalization of the already known purely mathematically-oriented design methods for multirate and wavelet filterbank...
